DSC03477.JPGYesterday, the community organizers in Kampung Kolopis organized a Tadau Kaamatan (Harvest Festival) to which the opening ceremony was attended by Yang Berhormat Tan Sri Bernard Dompok. The event lasted approximately two days in total.
Although the state (official) Tadau Kaamatan was on May (30th-31st), local festivals held by smaller villages can be organized day, even weeks after the official date.

sDSC03486.jpgFor this local event, stage appearances by Akademi Fantasia Season 4 Finalist, 2006: Velvet Aduk sang a number of songs onstage, inclusive of the songs that got her into the finals for AF last two years ago.

There were two unduk ngadau competition categories held during the festival: a below 16 years category which was held yesterday evening followed by fashion shows and singing by a few potential local singers, including the guest singer for the public. Field games such as tug of war with prizes were held around 7 in the morning the following day.

sDSC03440.jpgWith most festivals, the amount of visitors flocking to see the shows was overwhelming - despite the rain showers every now and then. Food and beer stalls were set up in tents around the stage perimeter providing cover and the usual excuse to get mud on your shoes and jeans - and of course getting drunk.

I had a good time throughout the event, although I briefly attended the festival at night due to the fact that the house required someone to keep an eye for trespassers. Villages like mine had already a record of illegal break-in cases recently in the past couple of years... so its better to be safe than sorry.
