The new Live Messenger Beta (version 9) from Microsoft, incorporates a large number of improvements and new features to the current Messenger software such as improved User Interface Design, animated display pictures, customizable alert sounds, and does improve existing media sharing features such as audio and video conferencing and incorporating picture sharing features similar to Yahoo Messenger's Share Gallery feature.

The main client and message window's user interface...
The colour surrounding the profile image indicates your current status and animates between the colours as you change your status...
The customization of skins have been improved, with soothing header image templates to choose from.
Messenger user's changed updates... giving you updates on a user's changed states such as updated profile pictures, MSN blogs, and their client status messages... and telling you when exactly did they change it.
There are some particular things I like about the beta client... particularly concerning the status indicators. The aesthetics and ease of use in using colors to determine a user's online state on quick glance is better in my opinion.
Unlike the symbols displayed in previous stable releases of Messenger, all it takes is just one quick glance at the list to tell who's free and who isn't, instead of having to squint carefully at the symbols to tell a particular user's state... now the only downside to using colors is when you have a burnt out display monitor...
