Love Note Competition

| 11 Comments | No TrackBacks
I received a call coming from Rachel from The Body Shop around 2.30PM today - and she announced that I was the winner for their Love Etc. "Love Note" competition!

love_letter.gifThe "Love Note" contest was part of the "Love Etc..." fragrance promotion that was launched together with the sponsored screening for Twilight: New Moon; jointly sponsored by The Body Shop and Breeze Magazine. The idea? To write a romantic love message not more than 20 words. Apart from this contest, I wrote two articles about the entire event on my blog located here and here.

I recall being indecisive about taking part in the competition... but took part in it anyway after giving some thought... the funny and pretty stressful part of this experience was - I had to rush because they were closing the booth; packing up and leaving the cinema premises - as it was time for the screening to show!!! I was the last person to submit my entry...

... but all that squeezed-up stress of an effort, paid off rather well; good enough for my entry to win! I am to call and pick up my winnings from their office or one of their sales branches tomorrow.

Note to self: Never write a romantic love letter when under extreme pressure...

I am wondering if there were other winners for this... or is this competition results in a sole winner?
Less than 3 weeks and Christmas 2009 begins...

I just wanted to write about some true facts about Christmas... mainly about the iconic figure: Santa Claus.

Historial Similarities
st.nicholasSanta Claus is said to exist; resembling the Bishop, Saint Nicholas (Nicholas of Myra/Turkey) who is known to the people of his time as a patron Saint of giving... so based on this fact, he does not give only toys to children. A well known story of his legendary deeds was that he was said to give dowries to help three poor daughters belonging to a very poor but devoted Christian family so they would get married legitimately without ending up becoming prostitutes (selling girls for money leading to underaged prostitution is practised even to this day in various parts of the middle east, India and Asia)

Saintly Cause
St. Nicholas is a saint often prayed to, for the protection of certain countries (Russian and Greek), children, sailors, prisoners, bakers, pawnbrokers, shopkeepers and animal creatures (mainly wolves).

Manner of Dressing
The only reason why Santa Claus looks the way we see him now - is because his appearance is a combination of old traditions and religions: Christian, Pagan, Old Catholic, Scandinavian, Dutch, German and English.
bodyshop_logoYesterday night Dwenchan and I watched the movie: "Twilight - New Moon" at 1Borneo, I would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to The Body Shop - for sponsoring the movie tickets!

My focus for the movie was on three things: the first would be the movie's plot and how the actors play their part, the second are special effects that were implemented and how well did it blend with the movie, and the third - is a personal preference of mine: female casts. Overall, I find the story and effects in the movie rather satisfactory; save for Bella (Kristen Stewart) who seems to become the complete opposite of what I initially viewed her in the previous saga of Twilight.

"New Moon" is the movie adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's "Twilight" romance novel series and is the continuation of the first movie adaptation which screened on local cinemas, last year.

Movies with Chimps?

movie_2012Just yesterday I went to see the 11:30PM show of "2012" that's been on cinemas for about a week already around Kota Kinabalu. The movie was entertaining - to my standards. But I rate it 3 ½ of 5 stars because the downfall was the movie is predictable; story-wise... and the fact that there were a few scenes which the actors expressions were acted poorly (like the escape from the chaos that befalled upon them) The only thing that saved the movie were the cinematic geographical scenes and special effects.

The ticket? MYR 9.00... the price is an outcry considering the movie has been premiering for a week. I was assuming that they would have returned it back to the regular MYR 7.00 but that surely wasn't the case with this movie...
Aside from the usual hours of router-tweaking, troubleshooting other people's messed-up computers and software updates and testing that I seem to do on a daily basis... it was kinda nice to take a break from it all and go out on Halloween for the sights, sounds and fun.

Le Meridien's Rumba Haloween Night - Friday, October 30th 2009

DwenChan wanted to head down over to Le Meridien's Rumba to check out the Halloween event that's held there - we heard of a number of friends were attending the event for costume contest, and that Dwen wanted to don one of his costumes and freak out...
